English Springer Spaniels
The English Springer Spaniel is an excellent field-dog and housedog. They are highly intelligent, very compassionate and make loyal companions. The English Springer Spaniel is a well-balanced, well-built, small to medium-sized dog. Their size enables them to function well as a gundog. English Springer Spaniels possess many natural abilities to hunt upland game for long periods of time. English Springer Spaniels have short to medium length hair. The hair is thick, and silky, needing regular grooming. English Springer Spaniels are intelligent and good tempered dogs. They are hard workers and constantly show loyalty to their owners.
English
Springer Spaniels are energetic, active bird dogs. They need moderate
to large amounts of daily exercise to prevent obesity and skin problems.
They also thrive on positive rewards for appropriate behavior.
The
English Springer Spaniel is considered to be very loyal and intelligent.
They can be trained rather easily by using positive reinforcements.
They are very hard workers in the field.
Male
dogs measure 20 inches in height at the shoulder, and weigh between 49 and
55 pounds. The bitch of the breed measures 19 inches and weighs
approximately 50 pounds. Their small size makes them very agile when working
for you.
English
Springer Spaniels, like many other gundogs, come in a variety of colors and
patterns. They can be mostly black or liver with a few white markings,
or mostly white with black or liver markings. The English Springer Spaniel
can have a color combination of black and white or liver and white with tan
markings. Their hair is rather short, close and very silky; therefore
needing regular grooming with a comb or brush to prevent skin problems.
They have very dark eyes which are accented with a dark brown or black nose.
The
English Springer Spaniel is an overall great dog to own. They demonstrate
good hunting abilities, intelligence, loyalty and compassion to their owners.
These dogs are great to have around the home. They make excellent housedogs
because they are loyal, intelligent and wonderful with children.
They do however make poor watchdogs because they are so compassionate toward
people. They are very avid hunters and will do well when working for
you in the field. You'll love them as much as they love you.
