The Golden Retriever is a symmetrical, powerfully active dog, and a well built hunter. They are known for displaying a kindly, compassionate expression. Golden Retrievers posses a personality that is eager, alert and self-confident. Primarily a hunting dog, he works well in difficult conditions. medium-sized dog possessing exceptional athleticism and balance. Their well-built frame enables them to have the stamina and ability to hunt waterfowl and/or upland game for long periods of time. The most distinguishing characteristics of the Golden Retriever is its thick, soft, luxurious, water-resistant coat. An important aspect of the Golden Retriever is its above average intelligence. The Golden Retriever is easily trained and make great companions because they have a mild, gentle temperament.
Golden Retrievers are highly active, enthusiastic bird dogs. Most require moderate to large amounts of daily, off the leash exercise. As an owner, you can't help but show constant attention and compassion to these hard working, lovable dogs.
Golden Retrievers are exceptionally intelligence. They are considered by many to be one of the most intelligent bird dog breeds. In fact, they are often used as seeing-eye dogs. The sexes of both Golden Retrievers are fairly close in size. The male dog is approximately 23 or 24 inches tall and weigh 65 to 75 pounds. The female dog is between 21 1/2 and 22 1/2 inches tall and weighs between 60 and 70 pounds. Because they are so large, both sexes are sturdy, well muscled and boned, making them exceptional hunters.
The Golden Retriever's color is remarkable and unforgettable. They are a very lustrous golden color, that vary in shades. Their coat is quite long, dense and repels water. The soft luxurious hair may be either straight or wavy. They also have feathers on their legs and tail, making them look very beautiful when hunting. The Golden Retriever needs regular grooming with a wire brush or comb to keep the coat shiny and tangle free.
The Golden Retriever is a friendly, reliable, trustworthy, persevering dog. They make above average family dogs because they do not have aggressive tendencies; as a result they are not the best watchdogs. They are known for their kindness and sensitivity toward children and other family members. They are quite compassionate and constantly show loyalty to their owners.
